The lawyers defending Hannibal Gaddafi, the son of Muammar Gaddafi, the former dictator of Libya, who was detained in Lebanon on the charge of concealing information about the arrest of Imam Musa Sadr and his two companions during their trip to Libya on August 30, 1978, announced that the issue of providing bail in turn is rejected from a legal point of view, and preventing his travel also constitutes a continuous restriction against his freedom and contradicts the content of the release order.

According to al-Arabiya, his defense lawyers said, only Hannibal Gaddafi should decide which destination he wants to go to after canceling all legal restrictions.

On October 17, the Lebanese judicial system ordered the release of Hannibal Gaddafi in exchange for financial bail worth 11 million dollars.

After this, the family of Imam Musa Sadr reacted to the decision of the Lebanese judicial investigator to release Hannibal Gaddafi, who was detained in the case of the disappearance of Imam Musa Sadr and his two companions, Sheikh Mohammad Yaqoub and journalist Seyed Abbas Badreddin.

Imam Moussa Sadr’s family stated that Hannibal Gaddafi was previously denied release, because at that time he was sued for “concealing information and subsequent involvement in the crime of kidnapping and disappearance of Imam Moussa Sadr”.

In a statement, the family added that it had refused to release him because nothing had changed in the prosecution’s evidence. Since his arrest, Hannibal has refused to provide any information he has that would help locate Imam and his two companions and release them.

Imam Musa Sadr’s family emphasized once again that it had not interfered in the decisions of the judicial investigator before and will not interfere in the decision to release Hannibal Gaddafi.

The family noted that they are surprised by the decision to release Hannibal Gaddafi, because there are no actions or developments that indicate progress in the case. Also, what some media have reported from the detainee himself during the investigation session that the arrest in 2015 was for his own benefit and to protect him from being handed over to the Libyan authorities according to Interpol’s order, once again refutes all the claims of his legal team about arbitrary detention.
